Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) defines DCA as a set of IT management disciplines aimed at automating system and application management activities within medium-or large- scale centralized computing environments.

CIOs and enterprise practitioners should understand software products that provide just one of two management disciplines are still part of a broader category of DCA solutions, but they should be wary of restrictive definitions that try to pigeonhole all of DCA into just one or two disciplines- typically management, provisioning, and process automation.

Data Center Automation is a growing area of IT that is seeing a strong up-tick in interest and activity among enterprises and vendors alike.
