Jeff Hill

Jeff Hill

Jeff Hill focuses on technologies and market trends in the area of data management and storage by researching and writing about topics that are of interest to end-user companies. His research examines components of the data center infrastructure such as servers and storage, but also looks at the best practices companies use to manage data through virtualization, storage, back up, archiving, and disaster recovery.

The practice has a special interest in looking at companies and technologies that promote infrastructure efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Hill is currently researching the topic of the virtual infrastructure, including severs, desktops, and storage. Virtualization is one of the hottest topics in information technology today, and this research aims to take a snapshot of the best practices of end user companies. Other areas of research include: maximizing storage resources through technologies such as de-duplication and tiered storage; storage systems designed to efficiently handle multimedia, digital content, and streaming video; and, building on previous research, new research on the current state of e-discovery and the green data center.

Some of Hill's recent research includes benchmark reports on green data center initiatives, business continuity and disaster recovery, and iSCSI. He attended the Storage and Networking Association conference in April 2008.

Hill has more than 25 years experience in high technology roles including technical sales, vendor management, IT management, commercial printing and publishing. Prior to joining Aberdeen, Hill was the Director of Vendor Assessment and Technology at SRA International in Fairfax, VA. Some of his prior experience includes Business Strategist at Sun Microsystems, Inc., VP of Technology at The kms Companies, and Director of Technology at ZBR Publications, Inc. He was also Manager of Graphic Systems at Lotus Development Corp.

Hill holds an MBA in Technology Management from Northeastern University's High Technology MBA Program and has a BA in English from Tufts University. He has also attended the Technical Writer's Program at the Rennselear Polytechnic Institute.
