Excerpt:

During the dot com era, few Information Technology (IT) organizations were under much pressure to show the business value that they provided. Today, the business value of effective infrastructure management must be recognized.

Network management, however, enables an effective IT infrastructure and acceptable application performance, both of which are required in order for an organization to be able to achieve its key business goals.

After 9/11 the primary goal of most businesses was to reduce cost, however today organizations incur a variety of goals just as important. • Centralization of IT resources
  • Decentralization of employees
  • Increasingly distributed nature of applications
  • Deployment of chatty protocols such as CIFS, dense protocols such as XML, and computationally complex protocols such as SSL

  • Reduce the time that the process takes
