Excerpt:

Through qualitative and observational research, ESG has uncovered a consistent problem within IT that has led to costly inefficiencies, protectionist behavior patterns, poor communications, lack of understanding, and increased business risk. Fortunately, fixing these issues has proven to be relatively easy, once the problems are acknowledged.

IT does not need expensive consultants, time-consuming processes, or even a budget to solve most of these problems-often, all that is required is an honest conversation.

The goal of this paper is to expose the issues, explain the causes, and provide a means of re-alignment that will result in a more cohesive, more efficient IT operation. Done properly, IT can work as intended, where decisions made in one area compliment the objectives of the other areas as opposed to conflicting with them.
